GREEN BUSINESS MISSION STATEMENT

Maia Gilman Architect is committed to following environmentally sustainable business practices. To this end, ten strategies are given top priority in our office.

1.       Alternative Power: We purchase local wind, solar and small hydroelectric power carbon offsets.

2.       Consumption of Power: We power down computers and printers when not in use, rather than put them into 'sleep' mode.

3.       Digital Media: Instead of keeping multiples of paper records, we scan and create digital backups of documents.

4.       Good Chi Throughout: We practice energetic space clearing daily in our workplaces to make sure that we are working in a high functioning space with flowing chi.

5.       Green Education: We treat every client interaction as an opportunity to educate about sustainable practices in business and architecture.

6.       Locally-sourced, sustainable materials: Whenever possible, we specify the use of locally-sourced, sustainable building materials in our projects, such as FSC-certified wood products.

7.       Low VOC building materials: Whenever possible, we use and recommend low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) paints, polyurethanes and adhesives.

8.       Office Recycling: We promote recycling of office paper and cardboard, and minimize the creation of trash by purchasing products with less packaging.

9.       Recycled Content: Whenever possible, we purchase recycled paper and cardboard products.

10.   Reusable Workshop Settings: When we hold workshops we bring our own washables for everyone’s use, to avoid creating unnecessary trash.
