COMMUNITY WORK

Co-Op Education

The firm of Maia Gilman Architect is a Co-op Education employer for NJIT's School of Architecture, offering fully paid internships for qualified graduate students who wish to expand their practical experience.

Typical duties involve:

Measuring and drafting;

Contributing to design at every stage of a project;

Researching green building materials;

Assisting with construction administration.


Teaching

Maia Gilman teaches architectural concepts to elementary school-aged children in various settings. She is currently involved with developing an Architecture in the Schools program for the South Orange-Maplewood School District in NJ.

Past and present engagements include:

Seth Boyden Demonstration School, Maplewood NJ;

South Mountain Elementary School, South Orange NJ; - FALL 2011

University Hill Elementary School, Vancouver BC;

Kolkata International School, Kolkata India.


Pro-Bono Work

Maia Gilman Architect has offered pro-bono services to several non-profit organizations. Services include design, donations and architectural walking tours.

Some of these include:

Architecture for Humanity;

Habitat for Humanity;

FINCA;

The One Percent Solution;

United Nations Hospitality Committee.
